Also known as Royal Poinciana, this is a wide spreading umbrella-like tropical canopy tree that can be wider than it's height, a big bonsai. It can tolerate hard pruning and can be kept small to even grow in a greenhouse.
Very fast growing, about 5 feet a year. Needs full sun, is drought tolerant, though it does like water during the growing season. Bright scarlet red flowers bloom for weeks into Spring and Summer! Should be protected from freezing temperatures. Suitable for containers or Bonsai. Zone 9B+ or container.
