The African Tulip is a large fast growing ornamental tree with glossy deep green pinnate leaves and glorious orange scarlet flowers. The 1-2 foot opposite leaves, which emerge a bronze color, are massed at the ends of the branches. The tree will flower in spurts all through the growing season, but peak bloom is usually in the spring. This is on of the world's most spectacular flowering tree. It is also very fast growing. Young trees may put on 6 feet in height and 2 inches in diameter per year in ideal conditions. Hardiness USDA Zone 9-11, foliage may be killed at 28-30 degree F, but the roots may survive down to 22 degree F or below. Container and Bonsai suitable.
