True cockscombs are members of what's called the 'Cristata' or 'Crested' Group, and they have a very unusual flower head. It's kind of wavy, looks a bit like a flattened-out section of brain, and someone once decided it resembled the 'comb' on a rooster's head.
It's a hardy, unique-looking, drought-tolerant plant. The extra-tall plants are great for borders and group plantings for massive displays of color.
The tall crested flowers bloom prolifically with a vase life of nearly 3 weeks. Wonderful, velvety texture and interesting shape. Ht. 25-36". Great for drying and dried arrangements.
