Senecio cineraria is a tender shrub, usually grown as a half-hardy annual foliage plant. Its young leaves are slightly lobed, a bit like oak leaves, but as the plants mature they become deeply cut, much paler in colour and are covered in a silvery grey fleece. It's perfect for night time Moon Gardens, growing at the front of a border, and also as part of a container display. It works particularly well with bold-colored plants, with which its foliage contrasts well. Can be used as a filler for floral arrangements.
For best results grow Senecio cineraria in moist but well-drained soil in full sun. Senecio cineraria is easily raised from seed and is best treated as an annual - alternatively growing in containers which you can move indoors in autumn. Annual or perennial that is winter hardy to USDA Zones 7-10.
Other Names: Syn: Jacobaea maritima, Senecio maritimus, Centaurea cineraria, Othonna maritima. Silver Felt Leaf, White Foliage Plant.
