The plants grow during the summer, followed by gorgeous flowers in late summer. The flowers and roselles can be harvested in autumn, until the cold weather sets in. The flowers are hermaphrodite and are pollinated by Insects. The calyces are highly desirable. The hibiscus roselles, Hibiscus sabdariffa, contain high level of antioxidants. Once harvested, the calyces (sometimes referred to as roselles) can be used to make a tasty and healthy tea or gourmet jellies. This tea is sometimes referred to as Lemon Zinger Tea.
