Organic open-pollinated. This Lagos spinach produces tender, flavorful greens in the summer, complemented by striking pink and white flower spikes that add beauty to fresh and dried arrangements. It has beautiful, distinctive flowers and is grown for food markets in tropical climates. The leaves themselves are painted with beautiful maroon swatches. It is also the main leaf used in the preparation of efo riro, a popular vegetable soup. Simply boil the leaves for a few minutes before adding them to your dish. It is rich in beta carotene, folic acid, ascorbic acid, calcium, iron and protein. Grows great in hot climates!
At the end of the growing season, it produces stunning flamingo looking flowers. Hums with bees and other pollinators from mid-day until dusk. Prefers full sun and moist rich soil, though does well in marginal dry soil as well.
