This rare broad-leaved Asclepias is similar to A. latifolia but with pubescent leaves. The plant is perennial herb with a relatively stout stem, with flowers rather large, pale green/white or cream, blooming from May to August.
Also like A. latifolia, the flowers are heavily visited by the fascinating giant tarantula hawk wasp, which kills tarantula spiders (genus Pepsis)- see additional pictures for reference.
This milkweed, as the name suggests, grows primarily in desert like settings, dunes and sand-hills and grow up to 3' Ft tall. Native from South Dakota and Wyoming, south to New Mexico and Texas. Zones 4-11.
Attracts Butterflies, Moths, Giant Tarantula Hawk Wasp, and several other beneficial insects.
