A compact scrambling vine, the breathtaking and unusual Blue Star Milkweed aka Southern Star, exhibits dazzling, bright blue turquoise star-shaped blooms held high above gray-green foliage. This shade of blue is rarely seen in nature, and so will stand out in any setting. This twining perennial from Brazil will grow up to 10 feet with support.
Before opening to reveal this unique and lovely shade, buds form and have a pink cast, and the spent flowers are pink. Ideal for cut flowers, Qxypetalum can also be grown as a houseplant and may be overwintered indoors. Blooming mid-summer through fall, this variety enjoys full sun and rich, well drained soil.
An excellent choice for containers, Blue Star Milkweed attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. A half-hardy perennial in zones 8-10 but can be grown as an annual as it will bloom the first year from seed if started early.
