The Brown Turkey fig is also known as Texas Everbearing fig and needs full sun and well-drained soil. The medium sized fruit is sweet like sugar with a smooth rich flavor. The outside skin is purplish-bronze to light brown and green and the flesh is rose-colored. Figs can grow into large trees but can also be kept small by pruning them as shrubs, allowing them to be grown in the smallest of backyard or Patio spaces - an advantage for urban edible landscapers.
The Texas Everbearing Fig is self fertile and self-pollinates - you don’t need to plant a second fig plant.
Ficus caricas are very productive and have a mild sweet flavor. Trees are cold hardy and tolerate cold temps. Fruits are great for baking, jams, sauces, drying, freezing and fresh eating. Fruit from established plants ripens twice a year, spring and fall. Zones 7-10.
