This basil plant (also known as Mexican Basil) displays dark green leaves and cinnamon colored stems. Cinnamon basil plants contain cinnamite, a compound that gives the herb an intense, spicy aroma and cinnamon like flavor. It contains vitamins A and C, and provides a generous amount of vitamin K. Has many medicinal benefits. Cinnamon basil is used as a garnish, to add a savory taste to some raw dishes, soups and as an alternative to regular cinnamon. Because of it's beautiful leaves and stems, it may also be grown as an ornamental. This variety is also used to repel insects and can be planted around tomato plants for that purpose. Cinnamon basil requires full sunlight and well-drained soil.
