Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is is the solanacea family, cousin to tomatoes, eggplant, and peppers. Unlike its relatives, the fruit is not edible, but has been applied as a rennet substitute in vegetarian cheese-making. On this plant, the root is used, usually for tea, but must be used properly.
