This curious vine from the Old World tropics has been cultivated for its edible fruits since the early 1700s. It can be grown as an ornamental annual with glossy, deeply lobed foliage, delicate tendrils, and yellow flowers followed by oblong, yellow-orange, warty fruits that burst open when ripe. Used in stir fry and many other dishes. Has many medicinal benefits. Grows twelve to fifteen feet tall. Plant in garden after last frost. Full sun.
