Beaucarnea recurvata is also known as the Ponytail palm, Elephant foot tree or Bottle Palm.
It is native to Mexico and part of the Agave family. It makes a nice addition to any indoor 'palm' collection with its flowing and drooping green foliage. The Ponytail Palm is a very unique looking tree. It features a large, wrinkled, swollen base, and very thin, long, 1 inch wide by 6 foot long, dark green grass-like leaves emerging from the top of the trunk. The most unique characteristic is its swollen trunk base. The thickening trunk serves as a water reservoir against dry spells. Zone 9+ or house plant.
