Eriophorum angustifolium which has the common name, Cottongrass or Cottonsedge is a rare eye catching plant ideally suited to grow in very wet muddy situations close to pond and stream edges. The Cotton Grass will grow well in semi shade. It flowers in spring. At maturity this pond plant will reach a height of about 1- 2 Ft. In northern Europe, they were used as a substitute in the production of paper, pillows, candle-wicks, and wound-dressings. Native Americans of Alaska used the roots, stems and seeds for food, and the stems for weaving mats. Cool climate perennial, zones 2-6.
