This strange and unusual variety produces these distorted lobed looking fruit which look like clusters of smaller tomatoes fused together. In Germany these are known as Reisetomate, which loosely translates to travelers tomato, for their ability to be easily eaten by tearing off a segment at a time.
The origin of Reisetomate tomatoes is as intriguing as the tomato itself, as some sources state that the Dutch originally cultivated this tomato, while others claim it was the Austrians. Most sources say that the Reisetomate tomato is a German heirloom, but that it originally came from Guatemala, or traces back to ancient Peruvian cultivation. Definitely one of the most unique heirloom tomatoes available and so much fun to grow!
Amaze and amuse your friends with this fantastic strange variety for your garden this year.
