Moringa is a useful small, deciduous plant of the family Moringaceae. The Tree or plant has fern like leaves and highly scented white flowers and long bean like seed pods. It is a powerful medicinal herb for various conditions and a source of many minerals and vitamins.
Leaves can be eaten raw or cooked like spinach, dried pulverized, young seed pods can be cooked many ways, seeds are edible, cooked flowers taste like mushrooms, and the roots can be made into an occasional condiment. Excellent in smoothies, bakes goods, salads and desserts.
Grows exceeding fast (4-6 ft one season). Moringa likes it hot and if planting outdoors, it will do best in USDA zones 9+ but can be grown in a patio container, indoor as a house plant and kept any size you want. Moringa takes heavy pruning with ease and makes also for good bonsai material.
