Helianthus angustifolius is a species of sunflower known by the common name narrowleaf sunflower or swamp sunflower. The flowers bloom in late summer through October in the South when there are few other blooming plants in the landscape. It will bear many flowering heads and attracts butterflies, birds and is of special value to native bees. The leaves are up to 6 inches long and rarely more than ½ inch wide, alternating as they rise up the tall stems.
Grows 10' up to 14' ft high. Requires plenty of room and grows best in full sun. If grown in partial shade, pinch plants once or twice in early summer to encourage branching. This perennial prefers moist soil, but will thrive in well-drained soils if watered during dry spells.
