Stunning white blossoms appear early spring, emitting a wonderful fragrance that attracts many kinds of early-flying bees. At the flowering stage a light green leaf is wrapped around the stem of the flower. When the flower fades, the leaf opens in a very unique shape as large as 6" in diameter.
It's common name of 'Bloodroot' is in reference to the bright reddish-orange sap secreted from all parts of the plant when damaged or cut. This sap was once used by Native American Indians for dye. Bloodroot will go dormant mid-summer. Zones 3-8. Poison if ingested. Sow in fall.
