Penstemon eatonii is one of many species of penstemon native to North America. Also called Firecracker Beardtongue, this particular species is native to the western portion of the US. It can be found in a variety of habitats, from roadsides to high desert, to open woodlands. The firecracker penstemon produces plentiful vibrant, red flowers along a tall spike. The narrow, tubular shaped flowers are a favorite of hummingbirds. Perennial zones 4-9. Penstemon eatonii is drought-tolerant. It needs full sun and well-drained soil.
