This small heirloom melon has been in use since ancient times and across many cultures. Vine peaches, or also called Chito melons, can be used as a fruit stretcher and baked like an apple or pickled in relishes. This little melon is a cantaloupe variety and grows in all kinds of soils and climates and is a great addition to your garden. They have a low sugar content so they are not sweet even though they smell like they are. These heirloom melons were historically grown to be pickled or preserved in jams or compotes, though it can be eaten raw. Vine peach plants usually grow about 1 foot tall, with vines that extend up to 10 feet long. Very prolific.
