This tree is one of the most iconic African bushveld trees and it flat canopy is distinctive and memorable, this tree is simply superb, making a statement as a specimen tree. In extremely arid conditions, it may occur as a small bush. Umbrella Thorn is a drought-resistant tree with the classic, umbrella-shaped canopy associated with thorn trees. Many bird species take advantage of the protection it offers and builds their nests in the canopy.
This plant produces scented, creamy-white, puffball-shaped flowers, which lead onto rattling, curly seed pods.
Zone 10+ otherwise grow as a potted specimen in colder climates or trimmed for bonsai culture.
