Lavatera, or Malva trimestris, is a low maintenance plant with hibiscus-like blooms on round-leaved plants. Loved by bees and butterflies. This lovely species blooms in white and pink. As the weather cools, the pink flowers become deep cerise. Lavatera makes a beautiful bedding plant, often grown as a hedge or in the mid border. Try it in a container too. Does best where summer weather is moderate; in hot summer areas afternoon shade is beneficial. An excellent cut flower that lasts well in water. All zones annual to be sown in spring for flowering the same year.
