The stunning Cranberry hibiscus is a multi-stemmed shrub that grows from 3-6 feet in height with green/red to burgundy serrated leaves. The foliage looks much like that of Japanese maple. Cranberry hibiscus is also referred to as African rose mallow, false roselle, maroon mallow or red leaved hibiscus.
Cranberry hibiscus is edible. Both the leaves and flowers can be ingested and are used raw in salads and stir fries. The flower petals are used in tea and other beverages. The flowers are harvested once they have folded and are then steeped in hot water or blended with lime juice and sugar for a delicious beverage. Perennial zone 8+, container suitable or annual in cooler climates.
