Atropa Belladonna has a longstanding history as a poison and a witch's herb. A perennial, it reaches nearly five feet in height with a purplish stem to match purple flowers that eventually become morbid black berries. The foliage is sensitive to cold and is a dark green color with pronounced veins on the undersides of the leaves. It is one of the primary ingredients in witches’ flying ointments. Certain over-the-counter cold remedies use belladonna extract to clear mucous from nasal passages. Perennial zone 6-9.
