Canna edulis commonly known as Achira is a really easy to grow canna with big green banana like leaves and very attractive simple but really bright red flowers which are produced in profusion throughout the summer. Grown both as an ornamental for its red flowers but more importantly, the rhizomes are edible, both raw and cooked. Ground rhizomes can also be used in baking. Arrowroot was once a vital crop of the Incas. Zone 7-11. Cannas will happily grow in containers with regular re-potting.
