The kurchi is a deciduous shrub or a small tree, growing up to 6-9 Feet high. Short stem has pale bark and several branches. Oppositely arranges, ovate, obtusely acuminate leaves are 4-8 inches long. Leaf stalks are very short. White flowers appear in clusters, 2-6 inches across, at the end of branches. Flowers have five 1 inch long white petals which turn creamish yellow as they age. The flowers are beautiful with oblong petals which are rounded at the tip, and remind one of frangipani and blooms even on a tiny plant. Though sensitive to frost, the plant recovers easily from damage. Great for containers, bonsai and house plant.
It is a medicinal plant in Ayurveda.
