Native to Western Australia where it prefers light to medium moist soils in a protected, shady position. It will not tolerate drought or frost. A perennial shrub, it grows to a height and spread of 3 feet. The stem is erect with slender branches while the crown is very dense. With brilliant orange-yellow and red or purple flowers in bunches at the end of the branches. The common name Bookleaf refers to the large, round, greeny-brown bracts which enclose the triangular fruit. This plant, though easily grown, is not often seen in cultivation. Zone 9+
