This is a non-suckering lilac introduced from northern China and Mongolia, growing 6 to 10 feet tall and 4 to 10 feet wide, providing a dense plant for the shrub border or grow as a lovely fragrant hedge.
The purplish-white flowers appear in mid to late May sometimes continuing into June. The flower clusters are 3 to 7 inches long and smell heavenly.
This lilac is deep-rooted, drought-tolerant and non-competitive with neighboring plants. It performs best in well drained clay or loam soils. Salt tolerance is good. Leaves are dark green, opposite and heavily textured. Flowers are in clusters at ends of branches, and bloom from mid to late June. Full sun is required for the best bloom quality. Zone 4-8.
