Cotinus Coggygria purpurea is a multiple-branching shrub native from Southern Europe across to China. It grows to 10 - 20 ft tall with an open, spreading, habit, but can be pruned to a smaller version and trained into a small tree.
It is an exceptionally handsome, rich flowering Cotinus that produces an unique atmosphere in the garden, in containers, on the balcony and the terrace.
This variant smoke bush, produces a striking purple color. The flowers are numerous, produced in large inflorescence's in purplish feathery plumes. This gives the plant a wispy 'smoke-like' appearance, hence the common name. Hardy to 5F (-15 C). Bonsai material.
