Lagunaria patersonia is a rare fast growing pyramidal small evergreen tree with 4-5" long leaves. It develops 3" hibiscus like solitary bright pink flowers in summer that fade to pale pink. Flowers bloom summer to fall. Flowers are followed by pendant fuzzy brown capsules which release seeds when ripe.
It is not a true Hibiscus, but does belong to the same plant family, Malvaceae. Lagunaria patersonii is the only species in the genus Lagunaria. Grow in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun. Winter hardy to Zones 9b-11 (temperatures down to about 25 F) or large pot that can be brought indoors during the winter.
