English lavender is a semi-woody perennial that typically grows to 12-18” tall and as wide. Lavender blue flowers appear in terminal spikes in late spring well into summer. Both foliage and flowers are highly aromatic. Leaves are evergreen in warm winter climates. Lavender will soothe and calm nerves and has been used in herbal preparations to treat anxiety, depression, and sleeplessness. Known for its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, it helps heal minor burns and bug bites. Highly attractive to bees and butterflies.
Lavender flowers and foliage are a popular additions to sachets, soaps, potpourris and for its oils for use in perfumes. Zones 5 to 8.
