So named because the Hopi Native American Indians used these seeds to make a deep purple dye. Purple-black seeds are used by the Hopis as a natural dye source for coloring baskets or wool. Seeds may also be used for food or feed, and this is the best variety for dehulling.
These branching sunflowers will produce a large main head with a greenish purple center, surrounded by single golden petals. Numerous side shoots will also flower. Great cut-flower too, seeds are edible for both humans and animals.
