Solanum aethiopicum is a deciduous shrub from Africa, growing to 5' Ft. It flowers from Jul to September and produces fruits from from Aug to October. The fruit is harvested young, long before it becomes ripe. Some consider it at its best when it is still yellow. The Fruit is cooked when fully ripe, can be used like aubergine (Solanum melongena) as a vegetable or as a flavoring for other foods.
Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and prefers well-drained moist soil. Full sun.
For best results, start the seeds early indoors. Then, transplant outside after the danger of frost is past. The transplants will need watered on a regular basis.
