Blue Porterweed is in the Verbena family, and native to the tropical Americas. 1/4" blue to purple blooms adorn the long spike-like bloom stems from spring to frost. The flowers are filled with nectar from before dusk until nearly dark making this a favorite of butterflies and hummingbirds alike.
This is one of the few plants that you will find consistently at nearly every butterfly conservatory. It is a robust, shrubby, herbaceous perennial in zones 9+ gardens, capable of growing quickly to 4 feet tall and as wide. Said to have medicinal properties.
