This showy and unusual heirloom comes from the cooler areas of Europe, being the perfect cabbage for winter sauerkraut and coleslaw. These 25" tall plants create unique green heads of thin, tender leaves that form into a cone-like shape. This unusual shape, and that fact that it is nearly coreless, makes it super easy to grate for kraut or coleslaw. The sweet flavor only adds to its desirability. Another singular characteristic of these heads are their sheer size; they will be 6-11 pounds each. The heavy yields of these large heads may require aggressive harvesting, so chop and eat them frequently. Heads average around 10 lbs but can get larger. Requires rich manure and moist soil. Transplant healthy seedlings 6 weeks after sowing. 70-80 Days.
