Take pleasure in growing this stunning unique small specimen tree with a short trunk and long, spreading branches and bright green leaves. The super large fragrant blooms occur anytime of the year right on the main trunk and larger limbs. Flowers are tinted yellow with a trace of purple and followed by 4-6 inch hard shelled fruits. A calabash is primarily used to make utensils such as cups and bowls. It also can be worked into ornaments, painted, and decorated. The seeds are edible and high in protein with a licorice-like sweet taste.
Prized by tropical plant growers. Because of its short trunk this small tree would make a unique bonsai specimen! Needs protection from hard freezes. Zone 9 through 12.
