The fragrant flowers of this overly vigorous root-hardy vine age from white to pink to red for a summer-fall show. It has a profusion of small, trumpet-shaped flowers, which are borne in perfect multicolored bouquets. The flowers' perfume is heaviest at night.
Also known by the common names Chinese honeysuckle, Shi Jun Zi, Akar Dani and Drunken Sailor, Quisqualis indica is native to tropical Asia, New Guinea and the Philippines, where it is used as a herbal medicine.
It will cover a fence quickly, growing as much as 12 feet in a season and as much as 30 feet if it isn't cut back each spring.
The vine is usually covered with blooms throughout the summer. Depending upon the region, the foliage may dry or even die in the winter. However, if mulched properly, the roots will survive and produce new growth in the following year. Zone 9+
