These unique spotted flowers are the perfect solution for shady areas of the garden that need a boost of color. The common name has been attributed to the blooms being shaped like a monkey’s face (also known as the ‘chimp-pansy’). The funnel shaped blooms are born in a multitude of combinations of red, cream and yellow from spring through summer. Clump forming plants have spade-shaped, green, coarsely serrated leaves formed in pairs along stout, sturdy stems.
Mimulus like cool moist spots in dappled shade. They make excellent container plants, look great in hanging baskets or tucked into a mixed border. They're self-seeding annuals, thrive in any zone from 3 to 9 as long as the soil is moist, and do especially well at the edge of a pond.
