The stunning Dorotheanthus is a bright, ground-hugging beauty that forms patches of brilliant, almost iridescent color in spring. This succulent annual, sometimes perennial in milder zones, hails from South Africa.
The Ice Plant grows mostly in flat, sandy plains, are drought resistant and are profuse flowering plants. It is a very showy succulent with shiny colorful flowers, growing 6-8 Inches high. Leaves spread slightly as the plants grow older. The leaves are small, green in color and covered with shiny dots, resembling ice. The flowers are single and may reach up to 2 inches across. Color varies from white to pink and shades of orange and yellow. Flowering is from August to mid October. USDA Zones 9-11. Re-seeds.
